8/80 Rule

The work package in a WBS must take no fewer than 8 hours of labor and no more than 80 hours of labor to create.

affinity diagrams

Clusters a large number of similar ideas together for further analysis.

autocratic

One individual makes the decision on behalf of the group.

brainstorming

Generates as many ideas as possible without judgment or dismissal during the process.

code of accounts

Numbering system for each item in the WBS.

configuration management plan

Defines how changes to the features and functions of the project deliverables will be monitored and controlled.

context diagram

Shows the relationship between elements of an environment.

funding limit

Budget is determined in relation to project scope. A qualifier may be used, such as +/- 10%.

mind mapping

Maps ideas to show relationship and differences among requirements.

nominal group technique

Similar to brainstorming to generate as many ideas as possible, then the ideas are ranked by a voting process.

plurality

Group decision method when the largest part of the group makes the decision if they comprise less than 50% of the total.

project constraint

Anything that limits the project's options, such as budget, deadline, resources, etc.

project objectives

Measurable goals that determine a project's acceptability. This is usually evaluated in terms of cost, schedule, quality, technical requirements.

requirements traceability matrix (RTM)

Table that maps requirements from inception to completion of the project.

scope creep

Undocumented, unapproved changes to the project scope.

stakeholder analysis

Scope definition process which determines, quantifies, and prioritizes interests of stakeholders.

value engineering

Attempts to find the correct level of quality in relation to a reasonable budget for the project while achieving an acceptable level of performance.

WBS dictionary

WBS companion document that defines all the characteristics of each element within the WBS.

WBS

Deliverables-oriented breakdown of the project scope.

work package

Smallest item in the WBS.
