Who is the captain of the auction after opener bids 1NT?

Responder. Captain of the auction is defined as the person who has not described her hand. A 1NT opener has been specific in her description; responder may ask "questions" of opener or provide info to opener in order to make the final decision regarding the contract.

As responder to a 1NT opener, what bidding options are available with a hand having 0 to 7 HCP?

Bid 2D, 2H or 2S with a five-card or longer suit, known as a DROP DEAD signoff.
(2C is reserved for Stayman.)
Otherwise, PASS.

Bid 2NT with no 4-card major.
