Complex Sentence
A sentence with an Independent Clause and a Dependent Clause. You can also tell its a Complex Sentence by moving the Subordinating Conjunction to see if it makes sense.
"Even though its raining, I wanted to go for a walk"
Independent Clause
A Clause that can make sense on its own and doesn't need anything added to it..
"Mia went to the shops."
Dependent Clause
A Clause that doesn't make sense on its own or is not a completed thought.
"Even though Mia went to the shops"
Fragment
A sentence that is missing a Subject or Verb. Could be a Dependent Clause that is not connected to an Independent Clause.
" Because it was raining"
Subject
The Person, Place, or Thing that is Performing the Verb or Action of the Sentence
"This Trip is making me nervous"
Verb
Words that show an Action in your sentence.
"I Walked to the park"
Simple Sentence
A sentence with only a Independent Clause
" I love to eat chocolate"
Compound Sentence
A Sentence with more then one verb and Coordinating Conjunction.
"I went to the shops and Mia came too"
Coordinating Conjunction
Used to join 2 parts of sentences that are both Independent Clauses
Subordinating Conjunction
Used to join a Independent and Dependent Clause
