government system where decisions are made by elected officials who represent the people

monarch

king, queen, or emperor; symbol of a country, "the Crown"

constitutional monarch

government in which the king or queen is the head of state with very little power; limited by a constitution

monarchy

government headed by a king or queen; throne is pasted down from generation to generation

democracy

government in which the power lies with its citizens and where a system of free elections of representatives is an important part of citizen's responsibilities

absolute monarchy

government in which the king or queen is the head of state with ALL the POWER over the people
rule by one

presidential democracy

type of government where citizens elect members of the legislature (House and Senate) and also the chief executive - the president- who is head of the government

empire

a group of countries are regions controlled by ONE government
