Define: Proportion

The relationship of one part of the piece of furniture to other parts of the same piece of furniture.

Define: Scale

Refers to the size of a piece of furniture in relation to the size of the other furniture in the room or the size of the room itself.

Define: Informal Balance

The grouping of objects is in visual balance even though they are different.

Notes on how color, pattern, and solids affect proportion and scale.

1) Bright colors add visual weight and a muted color makes objects look smaller
2) Bold patterns add visual weight
3) Solid or simple patterns reduce weight.
