What is the differential for collapse after vaccination?

1) Vasovagal
2) Breathholding (babies/small child)
3) Anaphylactic Reactions

What do you do when you suspect anaphylaxis?

1) Lie pt down, get vitals, support airway if any issues
2) Administer deep SubQ or IM Adrenaline, optional IM hydrocort
3) Call 995

What is the dose of IM Adrenaline to be given for suspected anaphylaxis?

12yrs and above 500mcg IM (0.5ml)
6-12yrs 300mcg IM (0.3ml)
<6yrs 150mcg IM (0.15ml)

What vaccine reaction must be reported in children?

Extreme lethargy, convulsion or have a very red, swollen injection site around more than half the circumference of the limb <72hrs after vaccination.
If this reaction occurs after triple vaccine (diptheria, tetanus, pertussis) subsequent vaccinations must NOT contain pertussis.

When is influenza Vaccination indicated?

1) Age 65yrs or older
2) Age 6-59mths (6mths to less than 5yrs)
3) Chronic Lung Dz or asthma
4) Chronic Medical Conditions, or immunosuppresse
5) Children/adolescents 6mths to 18yrs receiving LT aspirin therapy. (At high risk of Reyes Syndrome if they get influenza)
6) Women at all stages of pregnancy
7) Residents of Nursing Homes/LT facilities
8) Close family contacts of those belonging to the above higher risk categories
9) Healthcare Workers
