Irony

when the opposite of what you expect, happens -Like the Great Wall of China was build to protect and keep people out of China- but it did NOT, it brought more people there!

(verbal irony is often sarcasm, political irony is often called satire) think: little bitty girl, in the end, kills the big monster or goofy guy all along finally has the solution even the "experts" couldn't figure out, or the police station being robbed)

BC/AD and BCE/AC (sometimes ACE)

Terms used on a timeline to before the 0-ish year and after the 0-ish year. {BC/AD- Before Christ/After Life of Christ (dominus =life) **BCE/CE (or ACE)- secular (universal) terms used so all religions have a “common era” term to use on a time line

maritime

water travel (mari means water: marine animals, marines)
