Data-gathering technique similar to brainstorming, but provides participants with questions and topics before the stakeholder identification meeting.

key stakeholder

Stakeholders who have authority to make decisions for the project, such a managers, project manager, program manager, customers.

leading stakeholder

Aware of the project, wants it to be successful, and is working to make the project a success.

negative stakeholder status

Does not want the project to exist and is opposed to the project.

neutral stakeholder status

Aware of the project, but is not concerned if the project succeeds or fails.

positive stakeholder status

Sees the benefits of the project and is in favor of it.

resistant stakeholder status

Aware of the project, but doesn't support the changes the project will create.


Anyone who is affected by the existence of the project or who can affect the project's existence. Stakeholders can enter and exit the project as conditions warrant.

stakeholder analysis

Ranks stakeholders based on their influence, interests, and expectations of the project.

stakeholder classification models

Charts and diagrams that help the PM determine the influence of stakeholders. This can be done with power/interest grid, power/influence grid, influence/impact grid, and salience model.

stakeholder register

Documentation of each stakeholder's contact information, position, concerns, interests, and attitude toward the project.

supportive stakeholder status

Aware of the project and is supportive and hopeful that the project will be successful.

unaware stakeholder status

Stakeholder doesn't know about the project and the effect the project may create on the stakeholder.
